Habits maketh a man. Some people are extremely good at managing stress and always seem to have the situation under their control. How do they do it? Here are some habits to maintain your cool even under the most challenging circumstances.

  • Engage in outdoor activities

Studies have shown that frequent physical activity releases endorphins which act as natural painkillers and let your body sleep normally. As an old saying goes, “A sound body makes a sound mind” and taking care of your body is the first step to maintain the tranquility deep within.

  • Learn to rejoice

Laughter not only relaxes your body, but also increases blood flow and creates a soothing effect in your mind. A baby laughs more than 200 times a day, whereas an average adult hardly exceeds 20. So tingle your laughter bones more and learn to enjoy the small things around you. While we all strive to imprint our name on the history books, let us not forget to enjoy the small things that make a major part of our life on this blue planet.

  • Be honest

You know what makes those bubbly babies the best? They are upfront in what they want. They let their concerns known to the world immediately and that is why their desires are quenched at the earliest. As we grow up, we bottle up our feelings and let them build up, only to accumulate more stress. Learn to let go off your stress then and there by delivering your feedback to the people around you. This might serve to resolve most misunderstandings.

  • Sleep well

Ideally a person should sleep around 8 hours for optimal performance in daily tasks. Sleep deprivation might cause trouble with thinking and is also found to be one of the leading cause of deaths due to accidents. There are also other secondary effects like high blood pressure, risk for diabetes and binge eating. So better catch enough sleep to stay cool and calm.

  • Listen to music

Music has been used as a form of therapy for ages. It helps you calm down your mind and let go of the travails of the day. You could inculcate music into your daily routine and let those tones mellow down your mind. It doesn’t matter what genre of music you listen to, as long as it soothes your mind and provides you with joy.

  • Maintain a journal

Writing daily not only goes a long way in enhancing how you express your thoughts, but is also an excellent way to attain emotional stability and getting to know yourself. It helps you keep track of your goals and find a friend that will stay with you through thick and thin. So grab your note and pen now.

  • Learn to persevere

Perseverance is an art that takes a lot of practice. It is a mentality. When life gives you lemons, learn to make lemonade. Solve problems. People respect those who don’t whine and go on to solve riddles to create solutions. After all, everyone loves answers to their problems which can indeed make the world a better place to live.
